headed to the doghouse again

In 2005 I took a break from the intensity of the autobiographical work of 2004, and thoroughly enjoyed my continued exploration of birds and dogs. The dogs were starting to bear a striking resemblance to a certain black maltese poodle cross who can be seen clearly “accepting an award” and “taking instruction”. There were several references to overweight dogs in my painting that year since our vet reported to us that our small canine charge was indeed overweight. For the first time in my life, I traveled to Manhattan, New York in 2005 and one of the highlights of my trip was a huge Basquiat exhibition at the Brooklyn Museum. I adore his work, and have to say that I was very influenced by his use of crowns. They begin to show up in force in 2005. In “headed to the doghouse again”, the crown has fallen off altogether due to the list of alleged misdemeanors. In 2005 I indulged my passion for vintage etiquette and rules of conduct for women, and created a small feminist mixed media series (see Dangerous Curves)
