phoenix envy

phoenix envy

I suppose after all the therapy I’ve had, it was only a matter of time before Sigmund Freud worked his way out of my psyche and onto the canvas. In 2007 he made a few appearances. I hope he forgives me for “phoenix envy”. The black and white dog who appears in several of the works from this year (i.e. “a Freudian slip”) belongs to a friend of mine. His name (the dog, not the friend) is ‘Banjo” and I had him over to the studio for a photo shoot. I was lucky. Few stars of his magnitude perform for biscuits. My text got even bigger in 2007 when I made a set of 6″ stamps out of styrofoam. Where will it end I wonder and will there be a 12 step group for me where I can admit my powerlessness over gigantic words?
